This morning, I received the news that I passed the New York bar exam on my first attempt. This achievement marks a significant professional milestone and holds deep personal meaning for me.After graduating from law school, I faced one of my most challenging professional setbacks: like many other California bar applicants, I did not pass the California bar exam on my first try. That experience was disheartening, but it also ignited a fierce determination within me. Rather than letting failure define my journey, I chose to learn from it, grow, and face the challenge head-on. Passing the California bar on my second attempt was not just about earning my license to practice; it was a lesson in overcoming obstacles and understanding that these exams do not measure our ability to be great lawyers.Today’s success in New York is especially sweet because it reflects not just what I have learned about the law, but what I have learned about resilience. My journey through these exams has taught me an invaluable lesson: setbacks can propel us forward if we respond with a commitment to our goals and the power of perseverance. I didn’t just pass this NY bar; I earned a score high enough to waive into any UBE jurisdiction. To my community members facing obstacles today, remember this: every challenge is an opportunity to write your own comeback story. Keep pushing, keep rising, and trust that your efforts will lead you to your goals. (Because they will!)

🏍️ If you knew that the President of a motorcycle company has never rode a motorcycle, would you still buy your bike from them? 💥 I wouldn’t! 💥Let’s take this example a step further, why does the Washington State Bar Administration continue to have a relationship with the National Conference of Bar Examiners when the President of the NCBE was never required to take a bar exam?Wisconsin is currently the only State to offer Diploma Privilege to law school students that attend school in state. That means that any practicing attorney in the State of Wisconsin that attended either Marquette University Law School or the University of Wisconsin Law School was not required to take a bar exam!Have you ever wondered what State the NCBE is headquartered in? I’ll give you a hint… it’s the only State that offers Diploma Privilege…That’s right, the NCBE is headquartered in WISCONSIN! 🧀Go ahead and look for yourself here:https://lnkd.in/gGyzYM3YDon’t you think it is strange that the NCBE “About” page doesn’t include the identities of anyone in their leadership? Could it be that they don’t want you to know that many of their own senior staff have never taken the bar exam?Even more shocking, Wisconsin doesn’t even use the UBE offered by the NCBE for the limited number of bar exams it administers:https://lnkd.in/gAfzttZXIf you are curious about Wisconsin’s Diploma Privilege policy, look for yourself here:https://lnkd.in/g2SE-idMVoting for the WSBA Board of Governors begins in less than a week! Michigan bar exam results were just released! Congratulations to everyone who passed the bar exam! The overall pass rate is 37%, which is similar to last February's Michigan bar exam pass rate. This is low. Pass rates in Michigan have been quite a bit lower since Michigan began administering the Uniform Bar Exam. You can see pass rates by school here and more information on results on the Michigan Board of Law Examiners website. https://lnkd.in/ghxwKSA8If you did NOT pass the bar exam, please do not lose hope. You can definitely pass the exam with the right approach and strategy. If you are looking for more information on possible ways to do this, please feel free to reach out to me. #barexam #barresults #lawyer

The Sam Cary Bar Association would like to extend our most heartfelt congratulations to those applicants who passed the July 2023 Colorado Bar Exam. An incredible legal career awaits each and every one of you. And we trust that you will use your knowledge and skills to promote professionalism in the practice, and justice in our society. We would also like to extend our deepest sympathies to those applicants who were unsuccessful. We see you, we hear you, and we share your frustrations. Like many other standardized tests, the bar exam was established, in part, to exclude “undesirables” and people of color from the legal profession. And while this may no longer be the exam’s goal, it undoubtedly remains an effect. For instance, we know that in 2022 only 57% of Black first-time applicants passed the exam, compared to the 83% pass-rate for White examinees. Across the country, the bar exam’s racial disparities have worsened for a second straight year. This is an abominable statistic; yet, we have reason to believe that Colorado’s own data– historically and today – is far worse. The bar exam can be a perverse measure of resources. The key ingredient to bar passage is extensive time dedicated to preparation, but time is a luxury to those challenged by debt, unemployment, adverse health conditions, and tragic life events. But, we have your back. In the face of this all, we write to let unsuccessful bar applicants know that we stand ready to help and get you past this checkpoint. Sam Cary was a remarkable attorney because he was dedicated to securing justice for all those who sought it, not merely those who could afford to pay. We hope to honor this. We know that in this moment in time, you are seeking resources. And we are quickly identifying ways to deliver [financial assistance and bar exam support] to help lighten your load.Part of our mission is to diversify the practice of law, which entails helping you swim through this storm. Delayed is not denied! So never forget that your future is bright. And your life accomplishments and the amazing trajectory you are already will pale in comparison to this setback.--SCBA
