A company named “Domain Listings” (domain-listings.org or domainlistings.directory) is sending misleading “Annual Website Domain Listing” notices to domain name owners via postal (paper) mail. They look like this:

These notices are scams, in the sense that they’re designed to mislead you into thinking it’s an invoice or bill related to your domain name registration.

But as the circled red area shows, these are not real bills. They have nothing to do with your domain name registration or service with us. They’re trying to sell you a “listing on an internet directory”, but that service is useless: you don’t need to pay for basic search engine listings in Google, Bing and other reputable search engines.

This “Domain Listings” company has a one-star rating from the Better Business Bureau, with hundreds of complaints. You can find other people complaining about them on many Internet sites, including here, here, here, here and here.

What you should do

If you receive one of these letters:

First of all, don’t pay this company (or any other company that sends you an unsolicited invoice for search engine services). You never need to pay for basic search engine listings.

Secondly, pass this warning on to your accounting department or person who normally pays your invoices to make sure they aren’t taken in by it.

Finally, if you’re in the United States, you can file a complaint with the FTC and/or your state’s Attorney General.

How do these scammers get my postal address? Is Tiger Technologies giving or selling it to them?

They get your address from a “contact” form you put on your website, or from public records. We don’t share your address with them. In fact, they’ve sent us the same fake notices.
